Celebrating the Jubilee Year: Opportunities for Renewal and Faith

As many of you know, we are in the midst of a Jubilee Year. Ordinary Jubilee Years happen every 25 years. Sometimes the Holy Father will call an Extraordinary Jubilee Year, as he did in 2016 for the Year of Mercy. This year, being 2025, is an Ordinary Jubilee Year. It is an opportunity for renewal and deepening of faith. The beginning of each Jubilee Year is marked by the pope opening the Jubilee Door. The specific door is at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, but there are many other designated doors throughout Italy and the world. In our diocese, Bishop Dolan has designated seven Holy Doors. The closest one to us is at the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona.

This is a great opportunity to make a mini pilgrimage with your family, pray together, and go through the Holy Door. Making this pilgrimage offers one the opportunity to gain a plenary indulgence. A plenary indulgence is the total remission before God of temporal punishment for sins whose guilt is already forgiven, which a properly disposed member of the Christian faithful gains under certain and defined conditions. These conditions include going to confession and receiving Holy Communion eight days before or after going through the Holy Door. The one seeking the indulgence must also pray for the intentions of our Holy Father Pope Francis.

Bishop Dolan has published a letter with all of the Holy Doors and opportunities to gain the plenary indulgence. I hope you are able to make the pilgrimage!

Celebrar el Año Jubilar: Oportunidades para la renovación y la fe

¡Feliz domingo!

Como muchos de ustedes saben, estamos en medio de un Año Jubilar. Los Años Jubilares Ordinarios ocurren cada 25 años. A veces, el Santo Padre convoca un Año Jubilar Extraordinario, como lo hizo en 2016 para el Año de la Misericordia. Este año, siendo 2025, es un Año Jubilar Ordinario. Es una oportunidad para renovar y profundizar en la fe. El comienzo de cada Año Jubilar está marcado por la apertura por parte del Papa de la Puerta del Jubileo. La puerta específica se encuentra en la Basílica de San Pedro en Roma, pero hay muchas otras puertas designadas por toda Italia y el mundo. En nuestra diócesis, el obispo Dolan ha designado siete Puertas Santas. La más cercana a nosotros está en la Capilla de la Santa Cruz en Sedona.

Esta es una gran oportunidad para hacer una mini peregrinación con su familia, orar juntos y pasar por la Puerta Santa. Hacer esta peregrinación ofrece la oportunidad de ganar una indulgencia plenaria. La indulgencia plenaria es la remisión total ante Dios de la pena temporal por los pecados cuya culpa ya ha sido perdonada, que un fiel cristiano debidamente dispuesto obtiene bajo ciertas condiciones definidas. Estas condiciones son confesarse y recibir la Sagrada Comunión ocho días antes o después de pasar por la Puerta Santa. El que solicita la indulgencia también debe rezar por las intenciones de nuestro Santo Padre, el Papa Francisco.

El obispo Dolan ha publicado una carta con todas las Puertas Santas y las oportunidades para ganar la indulgencia plenaria. ¡Espero que puedan hacer la peregrinación! Como siempre, ¡estoy orando por ustedes!
