Installation as New Pastor / Benefit Concert / Advent begins

12-03-2023Weekly ReflectionFr. Dan Connealy

Happy Sunday!

Well, if Fr. Matt’s health has recovered and no other unexpected events occurred, then this Sunday will officially be my installation as pastor. In any case, I am so glad to be back in Flagstaff and to be a part of this parish once again. This past Fri, Dec 1, was Fr. Carlos Gomez’s official start date here at SFdA. I am grateful to have help, especially from someone so experienced as Fr. Carlos. Please keep him in prayer during this time of transition.

As I’m sure you have heard, there will be a benefit concert at Nativity on Fri, Dec 15 at 7:30pm. This concert is called “A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols”. Dr. Ryan Holder from NAU will lead the choir. The evening will begin with an opening prayer and will alternate with readings from scripture and hymns. The readings, or lessons, will tell the story of Salvation History leading up to the birth of Jesus Christ. I am looking forward to having such a beautiful celebration in Nativity. All the proceeds from the $15-20 suggested donation will go to the restoration fund for Nativity. I am grateful to Dr. Holder for offering his wonderful choir to support this project.

As we begin the Advent season there is much to pray with. I recommend praying with the daily readings which will reflect on the prophecies and events of the Old Testament leading to the Incarnation. The prayers of the Mass are also good points for prayer. The prayers speak of waiting and anticipation as the world draws closer to the celebration of the first Christmas. May this be a most blessed Advent for each of you. Know of my prayers!
