Teach us Your ways, O Lord

Happy Sunday!

It is already the third week of January! It’s hard to believe we are almost one month into the new year. As we celebrate the 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time we hear from Psalm 25. The first verse we hear is this: “Your ways, O LORD, make known to me; teach me your paths, Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my savior.” The Psalmist, in great humility, asks God to teach him His ways.

In our world it often feels the opposite, we are telling God our ways and merely asking him to justify them. Truth is only learned in its fullness when we learn it from God and in relationship with him. This week we can make the Psalm our own and ask God to humble us as He teaches us His way. Over and over in the Bible God is breaking the human mentality of the patriarchs and prophets so that His Word can dwell in them. We too are made to have God’s word dwell in us. May God always teach us His ways!

This Sunday I will be heading on vacation for two weeks. Please keep me in your prayers during this time away. Know of my prayers for each of you, especially in daily Mass.

¡Ya es la tercera semana de enero! Es difícil creer que estamos casi un mes después del inicio del nuevo año. Al celebrar el tercer domingo del Tiempo Ordinario, escuchamos el Salmo 25. El primer versículo que escuchamos es este: “Tus caminos, oh SEÑOR, hazme saber; enséñame tus caminos, guíame en tu verdad y enséñame, porque tú eres Dios mi salvador”. El salmista, con gran humildad, pide a Dios que le enseñe sus caminos.

En nuestro mundo a menudo se siente lo contrario: le contamos a Dios nuestros caminos y simplemente le pedimos que los justifique. La verdad sólo se aprende en su plenitud cuando la aprendemos de Dios y en relación con él. Esta semana podemos hacer nuestro el Salmo y pedirle a Dios que nos humille mientras nos enseña Su camino. Una y otra vez en la biblia Dios está quebrando la mentalidad humana de los patriarcas y profetas para que Su Palabra pueda habitar en ellos. Nosotros también estamos hechos para que la palabra de Dios more en nosotros. ¡Que Dios siempre nos enseñe sus caminos!

Este domingo me voy de vacaciones por dos semanas. Por favor manténganme en sus oraciones durante este tiempo fuera. Sepan mis oraciones por cada uno de ustedes, especialmente en la Misa diaria.
