Stations of the Cross

Happy Sunday,

I hope everyone’s Lent is off to a great start. Throughout Lent we will have Stations of the Cross every Friday at 7:00pm. When I was growing up this was a regular part of my family’s Lenten devotions. As a child it always seemed like stations took such a long time! My brothers and I were not always very cooperative when it came time to head to Stations of the Cross. However, I’m grateful my parents “made” us go. I’m grateful they insisted on us attending something that we didn’t want to attend.

Often times we think that because we don’t “feel” as though we’re getting something out of Stations, Mass, or another devotion, that it’s not worth it. I can say for myself, that this wonderful devotion has become more meaningful to me over the years and has continued to bear fruit in my life. I hope you will be able to join us this Lent!

This year on Holy Thursday we will be having our regular Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 6:30pm and then the Blessed Sacrament will be removed to the Altar of Repose in the St. John Bosco Room. I am excited to announce in addition to the Altar of Repose here on the hill, we will also have Altars of Repose at Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel and Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Chapel. At each location from 8-10pm there will be a priest available for confession. I invite you to block off time after the Mass to make a visit to Jesus at each Altar of Repose. The Newman Center will also have an Altar of Repose with a priest available for confession.

Finally, next weekend we welcome Fr. Adam Potter from the Diocese of Pittsburgh who will preach the English Masses in preparation for our Lenten Mission: Streams of Living Water. Fr. Potter will lead a talk Monday-Wednesday next week. There will be a talk in the morning and the same talk in the evening. We hope you can join us for any or all of the mission!

Espero que la Cuaresma de todos haya tenido un gran comienzo. Durante toda la Cuaresma tendremos el Vía Crucis todos los viernes a las 7:00pm. Cuando era niño, esto era una parte habitual de las devociones cuaresmales de mi familia. ¡Cuando era niño siempre parecía que las estaciones tomaban mucho tiempo! Mis hermanos y yo no siempre cooperábamos mucho cuando llegaba el momento de dirigirnos al Vía Crucis. Sin embargo, agradezco que mis padres nos “obligaran” a ir. Agradezco que insistieran en que asistiéramos a algo a lo que no queríamos asistir. Muchas veces pensamos que porque no “sentimos” que estamos obteniendo algo de las Estaciones, la Misa u otra devoción, no vale la pena. Puedo decir por mí mismo que esta maravillosa devoción se ha vuelto más significativa para mí a lo largo de los años y ha seguido dando frutos en mi vida. ¡Espero que puedas unirte a nosotros esta Cuaresma!

Este año, el Jueves Santo tendremos nuestra Misa regular de la Cena del Señor a las 6:30 p.m. y luego el Santísimo Sacramento será trasladado al Altar de Reposo en el Salón San Juan Bosco. Me complace anunciar que, además del Altar de Reposo aquí en la colina, también tendremos Altares de Reposo en la Capilla de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe y en la Capilla de la Natividad de la Santísima Virgen María. En cada lugar, de 8 p.m. a 10 p. m., habrá un sacerdote disponible para confesarse. Te invito a reservar un tiempo después de la Misa para hacer una visita a Jesús en cada Altar de Reposo. El Centro Newman también tendrá un Altar de Reposo con un sacerdote disponible para confesión.

Finalmente, el próximo fin de semana damos la bienvenida al Padre Adam Potter de la Diócesis de Pittsburgh quien predicará las Misas en inglés en preparación para nuestra Misión de Cuaresma: Corrientes de Agua Viva. Padre Potter dirigirá una charla de lunes a miércoles la próxima semana. Habrá una charla por la mañana y la misma charla por la tarde. ¡Esperamos que puedas unirte a nosotros en alguna o en todas las misiones! El Retiro Cuaresmal en español será el 16 y 17 de marzo.
